PROCESS

The first task which will be completed by everyone in the class, is to read the text. Upon reading, you will be divided into groups of 4 people and each be assigned a role. The roles consist of different tasks you must complete to be able to analyze the story with depth. Once assigned roles, you will then work individually to complete a worksheet in relation to your task. You will then re-group with your classmates who share the same role as you to compare and share ideas. In the next class, you will be put into groups and you will make a PowerPoint presentation about "The Black Cat" and the life of Edgar Allan Poe to help you in your discussion.
Then you will present your discussion which will be recorded on a video. Remember, you must rehearse it before but you can NOT learn it from heart. You may use note cards to assist your role however points will be taken away for students who are reading constantly.
Here are the different roles which you will assume:
Word Searcher: This person is responsible for checking the meaning of any new or difficult words and phrases. Choose 5 words that you think are important and the reason why you chose them.
Question Master: This person will make up questions related with the story. They should include questions about the characters, the themes, the settings and the ending.
Author Fact File: This person will create a mini biography about the author. It should include similarities between the story and his actual life.
Summarizer: This person will summarize the story. Remember it must include the main points and it MUST be in your own words.
After you complete the worksheets, you will create the powerpoint and practice the discussion.
