Task 1. 

a)Look at the following sentences, locate the noun phrases and underline them.

 

E:g. My sister Katy is waiting you in your house.

 

- Daniel´s car is really comfortable.

- Tom become a famous swimmer.

- Our neighbour was a pharmacist.

- The teacher wanted to lock the door.

 

 

b) Find in these sentences the head nouns and circle them.

 

Government web activity was frozen during the general election campaign.

-  We drove through an enormous forest in Germany.

-  We really enjoy the funny stories he tells.

She swallowed the dog which ate the cat which ate the bird which chased the spider that wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.

- I want to buy the mountain bike.

 

Task 2.

a) Look the following sentences and circle the preposition, then classify them according to the different types.

- By the end of the day all of the exercises will be done in due time.

- The people from the nearest town brought donation throughout the year for the victims of the tsunami.

- They left for the olympic village.

- The inspectors visited the shop round the corner.

- The child disappeared among the crowd.

 

b) A Prepositional Phrase has different functions for example, function like an adjective and function like an adverb. In the following sentences, indicate what function is: adverb (adv) or adjective (adj)

 

- The present inside the big box is mine. 

- Put the fresh flowers upon a high shelf.

- The clues within the first few chapters will lead to the murderer.

- The tiger crept slowly over the grass.

- Our boss put out a memo regarding the new rule.

- The extra blanket is in the box under the bed.
